Ultimates 3

For any comic fans that follow my blog, this may force you to question my exquisite tastes. But fuck it. I like Ultimates 3.

If Superhero comics are porn, Ultimates 3 is gonzo. And, damnit, the Stars are looking hotter than ever. If you want silly things like narrative and character development, look elsewhere. But if your looking for the visceral thrill found in sexy spandex and explodo action, there's nothing like an issue of Ultimates 3.

I was trying real hard NOT to like this, but I too am getting a kick out of it.
I mean, it's comic books - they're supposed to be fun, not high art.
Joe Mad draws a pretty picture, and lots of people get hit.
'Nuff said!

MuttpopNico:
The lack of inking is an admirable attempt at something new. I guess they felt that Mad doing pencils is a rare treat... so they decided to try some new techniques that will really distinguish the work from everything else that's out there. It definitely has a unique energy to it.

The color printing was awful on issues 1 and the first half of 2... but now that they seem to have fixed that problem, it's starting to look pretty cool. I have a feeling that the colors will look really nice once they collect the entire story in a deluxe hardcover. The brown hues give it all a very dreamy quality. It will encourage all the haters to pretend that Ultimates 3 is just a really bad nightmare! :-)

Funny thing is I was the "hater" when Millar and Quitely took over The Authority from Ellis and Hitch. Alternate universe versions of Thor and Captain America ass-raping Authority's Gay Superman (Apollo)!? People forget that Millar's ridiculously sensational run on Authority got him the job on The Ultimates. It's fitting that Jeph Loeb's take on Ultimates is similar with it's absurd tone.

Millar needs to be a bit more generous and allow Hitch to collaborate with Warren Ellis!

I like gonzo too, but why did they choose the no need inking option, I want Tim Townsend back on Madureira's pencils....
