SF4: Chun Li, Guile, & More Characters Revealled
The Street Fighter 4 watch continues...
The designs and early in-game character models for Chun Li, Zangief, Blanka, Guile, Dhalsim, and E. Honda were revealled in a Japanese Gaming Magazine (I think it was Famitsu). Naturally, leaving in the digital world, scans of the pages were posted (via a Korean game-site) for the world to see.
Now that we're able to see a bit more, I'm feeling a bit bummed with the direction things are being taken. The designs are nearly identical those seen in Street Fighter 2 and the subtle style shift is starting to look and feel weird. The harsh style and garish colors remind me of 80s hair-metal. But Street Fighter should be more polished and refined.
This is starting to look more like a 3D remake instead of a true sequel. I'm all for nostalgia...but there comes a point where it holds you back from taking steps forward. Hopefully that will take place with the introduction of new characters.

Bruce Banner:
Thanks for stopping by homie!
I'm glad you dig the little change. Still working out the kinks, but we're getting there.

damn, these characters look dope, considering i spent half of my high school life at the arcade playing SFII i'm glad they're staying true to the 2-D form and keeping the character designs relatively intact...oh, and the new site is niiiice, good work!

Gobi: These SF4 updates are for you as much asn anybody else! It's definitely a 2D game with 3D graphics. They wanted to stay loyal to the SF 2D gameplay (which I think is a good thing). I think the choice is business related. Everyone wants 3D graphics (like 3D feature film animation)... the producer is trying to find a method that can appeal to the hardcore and casual fans. I still think there's hope...but I wish they used a more daring style of 3D animation. Alex: Thanks. I agree...I miss the old arcades with 20 people watching a SF2 battle with their quarters lined up waiting to play! tragnark: I love that 'Golem' design you did for Kaching. Nice work. For me, the direction is interesting... but I would like more evolution in design. I guess they wanted to start more traditional and have evolution happen later. I love the Dark Stalker designs. They are some of my favorites in a Capcom fighting game. It'll be nice to see them return to those characters. -MPB

wut. that is awesome. i've been amped for a new street fighter since 3. the man behind the new revision of 4 is also talking of remaking the dark stalkers series and a new marvel vs. capcom.... i really like the direction they are taking this series, you can tell they are refining the style while remaining true to the core of the concept.

great site, great art guys, love the work, always.
gotta agree with the above, doesn't look innovative, and i'd
rather see it in an arcade then in the home consoles. but not these days. sigh.

first of all thank's for your updates, i'm very interested about the progression of one of the titles that makes my work explode.
in the begining when I saw the trailer I really didn't know what to say just thinking "ok let's see what's new and the gameplay".
today I really really don't know what to think, there is absolutely no inovation of the characters (the only new one we see is not so good from my point of view) and I have the very bad sensation that it isn't a 3d game fighting at all, I mean it seems to be a 3d graphic stuff with a 2d gameplay.
I'm ok with 2d because it allow very good resuls with animations and good chara designs etc...... but using 3d to not use the gameplay potential of it is the worst idea.
they rather do another 2d sequel more beautifull and everything for the geeks like me instead of it
I hope i'm wrong of course, but i'm quite frustrated because when I imagine the new fighting game of my dreams it's a street figher game, that's a shame capcom don't want me to work for them :)
