Lucha Libre Comics Promo Posters
As I mentioned earlier, in a few months French editions of the Luchadores 5, Tequila and Tikitis comics from our Lucha Libre Anthology will be reprinted in the Hardcover Album Format. This is a big deal for our Frenchie enthusiasts. Being published as a hardcover album is an indirect way of saying, "Well I'll be damned, we've made it into the big leagues!". Why? Don't ask me, I'm no frenchie... but as an in the closet US-bred comic geek (I'm too cool for that crap!), I assume it's all about ritual. For years, French Comic fans have accumulated collections of these massive oversized hardcover comics. Now they can finally purchase our Lucha Libre comics in a form that they deem suitable to sit alongside the other "treasures" of their collection.
Hmmm... so the French comics "standard" is oversized books to be proudly embellished on bookshelves. The US standard are teeny weeny floppy mini-magazines that US collectors hide in polybag condoms and store in white boxes on closet floors. What does that say about the psychological of the French and US comic collector??? On that note, does the same psychology apply to French VS. American Porn? Any reference pictures for this unofficial study are welcome! :-)
Below are the poster designs mustered up by Jerry with some ancient text by yours truly (Muttpop Bob).

Good point. I'm sure you'd find a wonderful new style for a manga-type format. But I love what your Tequila style is these days. Your approach to coloring keeps getting better with every page.

We'll think of something when it gets closer to the release date...
gobi:
Thanks. I'll wilder days are behind us. :-( As a man raised Catholic, I must admit you're Christ-like look these days is pretty hot as well. ;-)
Some good points about format. I don't really have a preference... it really depends on the artists style. For example, I think seeing your art in any size smaller than the Lucha Libre magazine format would do it a disservice. There are so many beautiful details that'd be lost in a smaller size! It'd only work if the pages were completely reformatted.
Zees:
I haven't seen those Hulk magazines. The larger size sounds like it fits the larger size of the character! :-)
Jer-C:
Thanks for looking out! We've corrected it for the printed version of the file.

I think the old format Incredible Hulk magazines were amazing it was same quality as the Saturday evening post, but fully painted covers are amazing. I have some from '63...I love european comics and the size, but I also agree with Gobi, where there should be more reason behind it. American comics are the size they are because of the price of printing but also because of the fact that kids used to roll them up and put them in their back pockets, its easier to carry something thats 8"x10" than that larger size.

mmmh, talking about format, I have a lot to say,
to be honnest I really hate the européan format, first of all for an author like me ,who want to make big detailed action scenes on large images, it's a kind of impossible mission to work on this format.
there is also the fact that you pay an expenseive price for a hard cover, but you only have 46 pages of story to read, this is typically an européean way of thinking, you love the shape of the object more than the purpose of it.
at least, on my point of view i'ts not so beautifull and efficient, I really prefer to have a soft cover stuff easy to carry, with a lot of pages (to have the time to get into the story before i'ts finish), my way of thinking tend to say that the more efficient way of design for something is the more beautifull, but once again french customers are so use to this "fancy" format that another ones is not real comics for them.
that's for this reason since 15 years (since french editors start the publication of japanese comics) I only read manga stuffs, not because it's better but because i'ts more comfortable on any point of view, an also because the story is the main purpose, beautifull drawing is not a way to hide a lack of story.
BUT NRVERMIND !!!!! BY THE HARD COVER ALBUM OF TEQUILA

PoonDockTaint:
Those Stray Bullet collections are mighty nifty.
DC's recent Absolute collection are in that European size. I love the format for some things (like Alan Moore's League) but hate it for others (Jim Lee's art looks like shit big).
I personally prefer the slightly oversized Hardcover format of some of Marvel's comics collections. In fact, that size was the inspiration for the Lucha Libre comic dimensions.
Actually, that pose isn't too far off from the figure. Just don't expect any bone-crushing. :-)
Boopooper:
Thanks! Good idea. Why didn't I think of that?!
drixmok:
The European format is wonderful for artists with very rich, intricate styles. Stuff like classic Moebius or the recent stuff Boucq is doing in Bouncer looks wonderful in the larger size... but some of the more cleaner and simpler styles (like Trondheim) feel way better in a smaller size.
Either way, I must admit that (even though at times it's too big and awkward-shaped for my tastes) the European standard format is superior to the American one. I like that the American Comic book standard size embraces the medium's original expendable nature. But I hate the size (it's not big enough to appreciate the art and not small enough to easily travel with) and I hate that there is no attractive way to store them. It's a definite step in the right direction that US publishers are embracing the graphic novel format... but I hate how close minded American readers and retailers are to different comic book sizes and formats.
Americans need to be prouder of their comics, damn it! :-)
moltes:
American comic reader are just now beginning to embrace their collections with the rise in popularity of the graphic novel. It's long over due... but unfortunately is still seen as a superhero medium. We need to change that!
If we dedicate so much of our time and money to any sort of collection, it should be something to show off and be proud of! Our first goal is to have people embrace their comics. Once we succeed at that, let's teach people to embrace their porn!

I'm a french guy too and I like the hardcover format album we have in our country. It's expensive that's true but it's also a nice object. I'm not sure there is any relation with our sex. I hope so because I've a big one ( collection I mean....).
But it's look strange for me to hide your comics like you do in USA ??. Like Drixmok said, you're not proud of the things you read ?.

As a french guy, I can try an explanation of why we on the Old Continent print our comics on such huge formats : besides tradition , I can't figure it out ! OK, these comic books look nice on a shelf, but they are very expensive, mostly because of their format...
It's common use to say "the bigger the car, the smaller the d$#k", maybe is there a link... But we are not ashamed by that and are showing our collections on broad light. Not like american people that hide their comic books in pouches and cardboard boxes in a corner of the garage... Not very proud of the things they read ? My conclusion is : french and american both have small balls. Yeah, I'm the hidden son of Freud, everything is about sex size and wanting to bang one's mother. >_<
About porn, well, I don't know, I don't watch these things (:angelic smiley face:)
By the way, those posters absolutely rock ! :)

Nice. The only oversized, hardcover American comic that comes to mind right off are those collected editions of "Stray Bullets" that El Capitain put out ages ago. On second thought, I think I've seen "Sin City" released as an oversized hardcover in recent years as well. Definitely not the norm though.
Any chance that King Katch pose is what we'll see in the figure? Bone-Crush action!
