Lost Winds Wii Ware

While everybody else is lining up to spend 80 bucks on Wii Fit so that they can be told how fat they are by a video game, I'm happily chillin' at home with the wonderful Lost Winds on my Nintendo Wii. Don't bother looking for the game at your local Gamestop. This game is downloadable via Wii Ware only. For $10 purchase on your credit card via wireless internet to your Wii you get a nice short and sweet game filled with whimsy that should keep you busy for about 2-3 hours.

The games a decent mix of Metroid, Okami, and Ico. It's world is a fairly open 2D action game (like Metroid) which uses Wii controller operated wind mechanics (sort like Okami) to control a boy with a funny hat around a serene environment with the occasional puzzle or enemy. As you get more powers and solve puzzles more areas open for you to explore.

I've played about an and hour and a half so far. So far, so good. It all feels familiar... but it's fun and has a nice sense of art direction.

Online? That's super dangerous! You do want us to focus on making more Muttpop toys, no? ;-)

I think with the Wii SB you still can still use the wii or the gamecube controller, and I think it might be online. I haven't had a chance to play the new one, but I still play the gamecube one today.

Luvyatoo:
I had a chance to play a little Mario Kart Wii this past Friday at my sister's place (along with some Rock Band). I've never been a very good Videogame Car game player and, sad to say, the same applies to this latest iteration of Mario Kart. I decided to stay true to the steering wheel but after 4-5 races I could never get the hang of it. As you said, I seem to be stuck on oversteering.

I did like that track with the bouncing mushroom tops but it wasn't enough to lure me in. I guess I was never meant to play car games... :-(

Zees:
Still haven't played Smash Bros. I was a HUGE fan of the N64 version but didn't really follow the series too closely since. I bought the Gamecube version when it came out, but didn't like the feel of the Gamecube controller for the game and never returned to the series. I'm hearing great things about the latest version but since most of my gaming is a single player experience I've held off from picking it up.

Based on your comment I'm assuming your loving Smash Bros. Is that so?

That looks like a great game...There are some flash games like that on Newgrounds.com that are puzzle games. That game looks way better though.

Have you gotten hooked on Smash Bros. yet?

Woah, Mario Kart is fantastic, MPB. Really, no matter if you liked previous Karts or are a first-timer, this is a super-fun game. Its great for when people come over, something to play that doesn't take too long to pick up. That's not to say there aren't rewards for dedicating time to learning the tracks, cars & drivers though.

The steering wheel is pretty intuitive. It takes a little getting used to, but not much. The big thing is that since there is no resistance, the tendency is to over-turn way too much when you first try it out. But after a handful of races, you'll be on top.

A great feature is that once you've gotten pretty far along in unlocking the various tracks, cars, etc, you can unlock the ability to play as your Mii character. This is particularly great because when you play online in the international forum, people can (almost) see your face as you crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women (ie: beat 'em) !

Players of the previous Karts will be pleased to see some of the old tracks are back, plus many many new ones with great opportunity for cool tricks and sweet jumps! Plus, wheelie popin' over the finish line is excellent.

Mario Kart, huh? I still need to play that. How's the steering wheel controls? Do they work?

Panda Man:
Wind control is fun. Sometimes it's a litte difficult to control, but it's fun nonetheless.

Nice. I haven't been able to pry myself away from Mario Kart long enough to even think about other games lately, but this looks great! Very light & fun.
