GØdland

Here are a few images from a zany American comic! The G0dland comic series is written by Joe Casey, illustrated by Tom Scioli, and published by Image Comics. Since the debut of the first issue in July 2005, there have been 12 issues released. The spirit of the G0dland comic harkens back to the trippier days of Marvel comics by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee (with a dash of some of Kirby's New Gods!). Scioli's art is chunky and energetic. Every character design looks like a favorite vintage toy you never had. Casey amps up the pseudo-cool and funky with dynamic scripts that never take themselves too seriously.Check out some of my favorite pages below. You can also read a digital version of the first issue HERE.

Man, that illustration style is total Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko type stuff. Nice. I love those styles from the 60s & 70s coming back around. Other dudes like Eric Larson & Mike Allred are pulling it off pretty good too, but still pushing forward and evolving those styles. Anyway, terrific stuff.

AL:Thanks!LUVYATOO:I'm glad you dig. I'm a fan of both guys you mentioned. Larsen's Savage Dragon is the only Original Image Comic these days. Allred's early Madman was filled with whimsy and his X-Force run with Milligan is one of the ballsiest and flat out funny interpretations of Marvel Mutants for as long as I can remember! More American comic highlights will be posted by yours truly every Tuesday.-Muttpop Bob

MUTTPOP BOB:Sweet Lord, I agree. The X-Force stuff was terrific! Just wacky terrific work. Another great Allred piece that seems to have slipped by a lot of dudes I've encountered was the 2-issue "Madman JAM" where Allred teamed up with Bernie Mireault for a crazy M.C. Escher-inspired adventure. Pretty good stuff.

TOYEBOT:I'm glad you dig. It's nice to see that people can appreciate the more nostalgic style!LUVYATOO:I missed the "Madman JAM" work...I'll have to search for it. If you haven't yet, be sure to pick up his DC Solo work. It brings a bit of the eccentric back to the DC Universe!-Muttpop Bob
