Jack Arnold
In the beginning of his career, in the early fifties, Jack Arnold, directed four of the most memorable horror movies ever. IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, TARANTULA and THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN. He has always been a huge influence for me.

Holy moses those were awesome. That incredible shrinking man clip had me on the edge of my seat. I really liked that Black Lagoon one as well. People make fun of these films but they are a real art form.

He also did a fifth horror movie: Revenge of the Creature but it wasn't as good as the others. My favorite is It Came from Outer Space.
