1-18-08 JJ Abrams

I just saw the TRANSFORMERS movie. It was okay. Lots of Bay stylized action. Way more Robot fighting than I expected (which is a really good thing). I'm still missing those Japanese designed robots from the original toy lines, but the Americanized remakes held up pretty good on screen. Still a stupid popcorn film...but it was worth it.But what really got me intrigued was the 1-18-08 TRAILER that was shown before TRANSFORMERS. All we know is the date of the movie's release and that there's some creative involvement by LOST'S JJ ABRAMS.It has that shaky handi-cam BLAIR WITCH PROJECT feel that is even more relevant in our world of digi-cams, photo-taking cellphones, and Ipods. It also has a far more familiar resonance in our post 9/11 world...call me crazy, but digitized explosions on celluloid are more frightening since I witnessed the Twin Towers going down on Live TV.This unnamed genre flick appears to be playing into all of that. Better yet, it's a monster flick. So, is it GODZILLA? Or something altogether original?I'm looking forward to finding out!Check out the nicely executed trailer:

Bad! I'd been hearing stuff about the 'Cloverfield' trailer, but hadn't seen it yet. I wonder if the entire flick will be shot in that hand-held MiniDV style or if only select sequences will be shot that way. Seems like it could easily transition between formats.Anyways. Statue of Liberty head! Flames! Woo!

LUVYATOO:I'm glad to shed more light on 'Cloverfield'. BTW, why in the world is it nicknamed 'Cloverfield'?Yup I'm intrigued in discovering what approach they'll take with the complete film. Sadly, I'm pretty pessimistic and think the film will not meet the excellent quality of the trailer. Knowing Hollywood, they'll reveal the monster within 5 minutes of the film's start...and it'll be some lame reinterpretation of the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man (actually that MAY be pretty cool ;-) ) !-Muttpop Bob

That's a good question about the title - sadly, the title is still shrouded in mystery to me. Cloverfield. Parasite. Slusho. Lord knows what it all means.I have to agree, it seems like there's a good chance the actual flick won't live up to the hype, but who knows? It may end up being super-bad!The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the trailer was a deep, sincere hope that its a NYC-based version of "The Big Guy & Rusty the Boy Robot."Woo! Probably not the case though.

LUVYATOO:Rusty and Big Guy? I don't see the connection but it could be interesting. Love me some Geoff Darrow...but isn't Rusty and Big Guy supposed to be an all ages story?ZIRITT:I still haven't seen the HOST so I can't see how it fits. My friends have been pestering me about watching the original so I have to one of these days.ANONYMOUS:Inside Job?!-Muttpop Bob

The twin towers and the building 7 scientifically couldnt have been bought down by the planes hitting them alone- there are many anomalies and scientific impossibilities, explosives must have been planted in the buildings before hand in order for them to come down the way they did.If you havnt seen it watch 'Loose Change'- it explains it better than I can, and is interesting wether you believe it or not, watch it here....http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7866929448192753501&q=loose+change&total=2760&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0By the way keep up the good work guys! cant wait to get those latest mini figures!

Muttpop Bob:Nah man, look back in the first issue of TBG&RtBR and scope out that monster! That's more what I had in mind really. True, that's a more all-ages tale, but Hollywood would make it all hardcore with a gunmetal-grey colored Big Guy and Rusty'd be more of a boyfaced-pimp robot like Gigolo Joe in A.I. Plus too, its 1/2 a Frank Miller property & that guy's blowin' up in da Cinema...Allright, allright, maybe a bad idea to draw the correlation between the 2.
