Repo Man

Recently, while I was checking out some blogs, I read this small review about one of my favorite movies, REPO MAN: "When I first saw this movie, I felt like I'd be thwonked in the head by a piece of plywood Nothing could have been closer to the suburban punk gay goth absurd Monty-Python-Contemplates-Suicide vernacular that I felt in those early days of 1982. I was only 14, but was the first movie that felt like it was made for me and my friends specifically. Featuring a soundtrack that still makes me irrationally happy (Burning Sensations, Circle Jerks, etc.) and a philosophy that made more sense than 2 years of undergraduate study, it makes me sad that this current crop of kids don't have anything similar." I couldn't agree more –even f I'm not sure of the exact meaning of thwonked. So, if you haven't seen this wonder... you know what to do. Wikipedia a very interesting page about REPO MAN.

Quadrophenia

Produced by THE WHO in 1979, QUADROPHENIA is after TOMMY, their second rock-opera. And as TOMMY, it's a feast for the ears and the eyes! Here's a web page about it and here's the trailer.

The Devils

1971, it was the time when Ken Russell was one of the most interesting directors ever. He directed THE DEVILS based on Aldous Huxley's book: THE DEVILS OF LOUDON. Cardinal Richelieu and his power-hungry entourage seek to take control of pre-rennaisance France, but need to destroy Father Grandier - the priest who runs the fortified town that prevents them from exerting total control. So they seek to destroy him by setting him up as a warlock in control of a devil-possessed nunnery, the mother superior of which is sexually obsessed by him. A mad witch-hunter is brought in to gather evidence against the priest, ready for the big trial. (Source IMDB). That movie was so disturbing that it had a lot of troubles all over the world. When on TV, Ken Russell hit a journalist when THE DEVILS was called "monstrously indecent". This movie is visually stunning. You can find some of its torture scenes on youtube. I heard it's gonna be released in DVD soon. Let's hope it'll be the original version and not the censored version. THE DEVILS features Vanessa Redgrave and one of my favorite actor ever: Oliver reed.

Forbidden Planet

I guess everyone knows that FORBIDDEN PLANET is one of the most beautiful movies ever made. There's a new DVD out with tons of new features like a copy of hard to find THE INVISIBLE BOY also featuring Robby The Robot. OK, now you know what I want for Christmas.

Splinter

If you haven't seen SPLINTER (it's normal since it hasn't been released yet) you should. SPLINTER is the first movie of an amazing director, Michael D. Olmos. It's written by MUTTPOP's close friend Adrian A. Cruz, it's about East LA gangs and it's really good. It features the always drunk Tom Sizemore, the always talented Resmine Attis and the always scary Edward James Olmos. More info here. SPLINTER is having its Los Angeles premiere next week, October 10th at 9:00 pm at the Egyptian theatre in Hollywood. If you live in the neighborhood, you have no excuse to miss it.
