EC COMICS did not only publish horror comics, they also published a lot of sci-fi comics. Here’s an online gallery about WEIRD FANTASY, WEIRD SCIENCE, INCREDIBLE SCIENCE FICTION and WEIRD SCIENCE FICTION. The last one probably contained the best artwork of any EC series. Ghosts and Buccaneers
Howard Pyle (1853-1911) is known for his marvelous paintings about pirates, marooners and buccaneers. He wrote and illustrated several books (MEN OF IRON, THE STORY OF KING ARTHUR AND HIS KNIGHTS,…) but it was his BOOK OF PIRATES who determinated the definitive picture of the sea robbers.

Mischievous Art
Who strongly influenced Shag, Tim Biskup or Gary Baseman? Here’s the man: Jim Flora (1914-1998). He was at his acme in the 40s and 50s when he worked for jazz labels and did cover illustrations for Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Louis Amstrong, Sidney Bechet… In the 60s he fell in disgrace and became almost forgotten. But luckily his art is rehabilitated today .

El Chango
Ernesto Garcia "Chango" Cabral (1880-1968) is one of the most famous Mexican cartoonists. During the forties and the fifties, he illustrated posters of Mexican movies from ‘la epoca de oro del Cine Mexicano’. Here is a selection of his best work.
