Muttpop Bob's musings and rants for all things Muttpop, toys, videogames, hip-hop, and whatever else he's thinking of.

The Secret, Esther Hicks, and Oprah

I think it's a bit weird and fascinating how everybody's talking about "The Secret". Oprah's been pushing it big time and just about everywhere you turn you hear someone mentioning or making fun of "The Secret". From the little I casually gathered, I thought it was the latest pop psychology trend that reiterates the typical assertions about the importance of positive thought and action.

What I didn't know is that it's supposedly the teachings of non-physical entities speaking through human channelers that assert there's a God in us all. This is some pretty wacky stuff! All this talk of "vibrations", "wave lengths", and "consciousness" sounds like some silly hippie talk. But is it? Oprah obviously feels it's legitimate. What do you think? Have the kooks succeeded in converting the confused? Or is there something more to it all?

I like to think about how this relates to art. The idea of channeling sounds crazy... but I think the concepts behind it are not too far off from true artistic exploration. But I'm still not sure if "The Secret" dialogue is anything more than taking some decent concepts and perverting them for financial gain.

Below is a video of Esther Hicks (the infamous missing part of the famous Secret DVD) channeling the entity of Abraham at a Conference.

MPB is back

Wedded. Honeymooned. Backed.

And I'm ready to give Muttpop the love and support it needs to take it all to the next level.

Here's one of the few pics I took during my Honeymoon in Catalina.

The blog will be in full effect in the next coming days.

SDCC 08

Bill, Jerry, and I were at the San Diego Comicon on Friday and Saturday. Good times. It was super cool to catch up with the Muttpop fans. Tons of super cool folks who were lucky enough to walk away with some amazing sketches by Bill.

San Diego weather is always nice. And the crowd's energy brought us all to a frenzy. I pretty much gave in to the sensory overload. There was too much to take in... but I enjoyed what I could. I really dug some of the new Transformer Animated toys (damn, should have taken some photos). I also picked up that amazing Martin Ontiveros X Gargamel Oni Ojo figure, the Gold Deatbot (I still like my OG Deathbot more), and a Tokidoki Sandy plush for my girlfriend.

Taking part in the Eisner Awards was pretty cool. It was surreal seeing Samuel Jackson give out an Eisner. It just goes to show how much San Diego Comicon has become an extenson of Hollywood. Despite that, it was pleasant to see, hear, and feel that the overall vibe of the Eisners is "make good comics". Forget that lustre of hollywood and just focus on making some damned good comics that people can enjoy. I like that (and hope we are successful at doing it). I was super happy to see Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon clean up the Eisners. I love what they did on Casanova, Umbrella Academy, and 5.

We didn't win for "Best Humor Publication"... but at least the guy that did had a funny acceptance speech (made the hurt go down a little easier). And it got me inspired to focus on reaching out the the comic community. We've been a bit slow at reaching out to the comics community and they still gave us props. Now I'm inspired to reach out to them and fight with them in the trenches. Thanks!

Muttpop Bob Bachelor Party

Wow. Came back from my Bachelor Party on Sunday evening... but I haven't been feeling quite right until today.

Vegas is a very bad place! My best man, Chuck, set us all up at a VIP Suite at the Mirage. A total of 17 buddies came out over the course of 2 days.

I consider Friday the "ugly" side of my Bachelor Party and Saturday the "beautiful" side.

After a bit of a strong pre-party in the hotel room, we went downstairs to the Jet Club. It happened to be the same night as Celtic's Paul Pierce's celebration. The night involved far too many drinks in far too little time with a bunch of bachelorette parties. Let's just say that by 12am, I was kicked out of the club as a result of the mess I made at our table. My buddies had to carry me out of the club as I partook on a "walk of shame" back to my hotel suite. Fortunately, I don't remember any of that. What I do remember is waking up curled up on the toilet room floor. Like I said: UGLY.

Somehow I managed to wake up on Saturday feeling pretty good. I was a little dizzy and queasy, but felt really good considering what I had put my body through the night before. We started off the day at Tao Beach. Tao Beach was ridiculous! I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place in my entire life. And everyone was having an awesome time drinking, getting tan, and mingling in a day pool amidst some of the dopest DJ mixing I've heard since DJ Z-trip. I kept my drinking to $12 bottled water (no joke)... which helped get me back to my norm. I wasn't feeling completely right until the DJ pulled out some crazy mix where he started with Estelle's "American Boy", mixed that seamlessly with Daft Punk "Around the World", then some Outkast, and finished it off with some Gorillaz. Somehow that specific mix revitalized me and told me that I was in for one helluva a beautiful Saturday.

We ended our evening at Wynn's Club Tryst. Some super cool ladies we met up at Tao decided to meet up with us at Tryst, which was a pleasant surprise. We ended up drinking, dancing, and chilling to nights end. A perfect way to end 2 nights of debauchery.

Shockingly, no Strip Clubs were a part of my celebration. A few of my boys ended up going, but I was either too messed up or having too much fun at the club to go.

On Sunday, Bill and Jerry joined me for a comic signing at Comic Oasis. I'll give my spin on that later.

Pics below are from the more sober parts of Friday.

Bill In Town Tomorrow...

In preparation for San Diego Comicon, Bill's arriving in Los Angeles tomorrow and will be joining Jerry and me on our Muttpop Adventures for the next 2 weeks. This time around we have plenty in store for Bill to experience! I'm getting married in a little over 2 weeks... so Bill's lucky enough to join me and my old buddies for my Bachelor Party Weekend in Las Vegas. It'll be Jerry and Bill's first time in the City of Sin and we'll be sure to chronicle the debauchery right here on the Blog. Give us your good luck for the Black Jack tables and the ladies...

(here's a "wholesome" Jerry and Bill picture from Bill's previous visit)
