Kwik-E-Mart
On my other blog (the one in French) I've posted a few pictures I took this morning during my first visit to the brand new KWIK-E-MART in Burbank, California. There are 12 stores like this in the US and they'll be open until the release of the THE SIMPSONS movie. I bought a few things and I hate one the famous donut that Homer eat every day. Pretty bad actually but I don't regret anything! Info and pictures here.

Richard Corben - Neverwhere
I've always been a big fan of Richard Corben's art. He's probably the one responsible for my interest in comic books. So, I was pretty excited when I found these excerpts of NEVERWHERE. on youtube. It's the first time that I had the opportunity to see what it looks like. Corben wrote, produced and directed NEVERWHERE in 1968.

Hard Sell: DJ Shadow + Cut Chemist
My sister bought me tickets to DJ SHADOW and CUT CHEMIST's "Hard Sell" Show at the Hollywood Bowl. Man, what a show! Seeing these guys perform revitalizes my musical spirit at a time when there's very little to look forward to in mainstream Hip-Hop. "Hard Sell" was DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist's attempt to revisit what they established in their legendary "Brain Freeze" and "Product Placement" performances. All records used were original 45's played on 1 of 8 record players on stage. Everything was done in real time with only a guitar loop machine used to occasionally loop a sampled beat that is recorded in front of the audience. In and of itself, the performance was awesome. Both DJ's skills are as sharp as they've ever been and the visuals complemented the musical themes of their sets perfectly. But what really sealed the deal was the location. Being outdoors on a perfect Los Angeles evening drinking wine and bobbing my head to such an amazing mix of breaks was heavenly! Here's some video from their previous live collaborations:BRAIN FREEZE 1999(Sorry, this file cannot be embedded!)PUSH BUTTON OBJECTS 2004

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth
There is a nice exhibition at WACKO/LA LUZ DE JESUS in Los Angeles: WORK FROM ED "BIG DADDY" ROTH STUDIOS. It features 17 original ink on board artworks for tee-shirts & decals. It's funny, beautiful and unfortunately too expensive for me.

The King Of Kustomizers
George Barris is one of the best car customizers ever. He began his career in the beginning of the forties and he's still working. He created a lot of cars for the movie industry. He's the man behind the first BATMOBILE, the GREEN HORNET's BLACK BEAUTY or the unbelievable MUNSTER KOACH. George Barris has a store in North Holywood and a website where you can find a lot of pictures of his works.
