Chris Ware

For its November 17th issue, the NEW YORKER had four different covers all signed Chris Ware. Since, I'm sure you missed them –like myself– here they are. Thank you Muttpop! There's also an online comic page by Ware on the NEW YORKER website.

Forbidden Planet

I guess everyone knows that FORBIDDEN PLANET is one of the most beautiful movies ever made. There's a new DVD out with tons of new features like a copy of hard to find THE INVISIBLE BOY also featuring Robby The Robot. OK, now you know what I want for Christmas.

Pierre Joubert

Pierre Joubert was the illustrator behind the amazing covers of the BOB MORANE series and many others published by MARABOUT during the sixties. He died in 2002, he was 91. His career span is over 70 years and he drew thousands of illustrations. I found a small bio on the French Wikipedia. But I couldn't find any website with a big gallery of his art.

The World of John Hinde

John Hinde (1916-1997) was a British photographer and pioneer of postcard-shaped pleasure. The Holiday postcards present a romantic image. John Hinde made this into an artform, with the brightest colors, the happiest faces and some of the most artificial compositions. The colors (produced using the complex tri-color carbro process) are Technicolor bright and the contents are carefully chosen. By adding details and enhancing the colors, sometimes to outrageous effect, the photographs convey a mood and a lifestyle along with each place. It is always a mood of tremendous optimism and excitement, that makes everywhere looks like the most fantastic place to go.
