Tiempos Finales

In the spirit of Halloween, I wanted to give notice to one of the hidden gems of the United States comic scene: Sam Hiti's gorgeous "End Times: Tiempos Finales" graphic novel. This self published comic was released in the summer of 2004. With it's breathtaking artwork and simple yet bold design, it's that rare breed of comic whose various elements are good on their own and manages to make those elements even better when consumed as a whole. The first of a supposed series of nine Graphic Novels (the second has yet to be published), "Tiempos Finales" hints at an epic battle between Good and Evil. Based in some fantastical version of San Pablo, Chile, the Matador-like hero seeks to destroy the many demons that inhabit his homeland with the aide of his potion-filled cloak, a knife, and his holy Bible.Although a bit light on story, Hiti's character designs and pacing are amazing. His chunky linework is a weird mix of Jack Kirby, Paul Pope, and Mike Mignola. Most importantly, his work feels fresh and original. Check out some of my favorite panels below!

Tequila vs. The Rednecks

In the second story of Tequila, he will fight a bunch of degenerate rednecks. Gobi already designed 14 of them... (instead of doing his pages.) Here's the first of them. I'll post more in the next few days. Stay tuned.
