Paul Pope X DKNY
DKNY is collaborating with Paul Pope to produce an affordable line of Fall Men's Wear for 2008.
As a HUGE Paul Pope fan, I'm super excited about this oft-kilter collaboration. Paul Pope's renderings scream sex and style.

Scalped
SCALPED is the best Vertigo Comic since PREACHER. It's that good.
Jason Aaron's writing is sharp and relentless. R.M. Guera's art feels disparate, beautiful, and alive. The world they've created is one you know you should avoid at all costs but it's so beautifully rendered that you keep coming back for more.
The bulk of the story takes place on the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation, where Dash Bad Horse has mysteriously returned to "The Rez" in the midst of the Crazy Horse Casino's construction. Most of the residents have little to no hope that the new Casino will bring anything but more trouble to the poverty-stricken area. Dash Bad Horse has his own secret agenda... one that becomes more and more unclear as he's embedded into the wild world of "justice" that now exists in a place he once begrudgingly called home.
The foundation is rich. The characters are even richer. Aaron and Guera create a wonderful world that borrows from elements of Western, Crime, and Noir and makes it feel both familiar and fresh.
I started Scalped by reading the second Trade. After reading the second Trade Paperback, I immediately drove to the nearest comic shop to pick up the first. I then read the 2 Collections in sequence (yup, I read the 2nd one twice). I considered waiting for the 3rd Trade for a moment, but then realized I HAD to find out what happens next! So I bought ALL the issues of the comic that have been released. Having read everything that's out, I'm even more enthused.
It's THAT good.

The Invisibles
Since I feel like I'm going through a tranformative stage in my life (turning 30, getting married, living healthier) I'm rereading Grant Morrison and Company's "The Invisibles". This comic had a profound effect on my in my early-mid 20s. I was a bit bored with college. I was at a point in life where I lost a sense of passion for life and spirituality. But when I read an interview Grant Morrision did which recounted his experiences of abduction by 5th dimensional beings in South America... I started to fall in love with life again. :-)
Invisibles is about life, magick, aliens, humanity, sexuality, transformation, and spirituality. But it's relayed in a manner that can be interpreted as comic-booky gibberish to ignorant ears.
Read it when you have the chance. It may change your life.

Ultimates 3
For any comic fans that follow my blog, this may force you to question my exquisite tastes. But fuck it. I like Ultimates 3.
If Superhero comics are porn, Ultimates 3 is gonzo. And, damnit, the Stars are looking hotter than ever. If you want silly things like narrative and character development, look elsewhere. But if your looking for the visceral thrill found in sexy spandex and explodo action, there's nothing like an issue of Ultimates 3.

The Incredible Hulk Movie Trailer
Ang Lee can stick to doing "Brokeback Mountain". This is the Hulk that I've been waiting for!
As much as Gobi has tried to convince me that the original Hulk film was a good film, I hate the pseudo-intellectual art film approach Ang Lee took. All I want in a Hulk film is Hulk destroying a bunch of stuff and fighting monsters.
It looks like the director of the "Incredible Hulk" understands this. I also love the Dale Keown (creator of Image Comic's Pitt) take on Hulk's look.

Scud: The Disposable Assassin
Scud: The Disposable Assassin is back. And I couldn't be happier!
Scud's premise is brilliant. Scud's a robot assassin you can buy from a vending machine who self destructs upon killing his intended target. Upon realizing that he'll die as soon as his mission's complete, Scud critically wounds Jeff, his intended victim (instead of killing her), and puts her in a Hospital's Intensive Care Unit. To pay the costly hospital bills, Scud becomes a bounty hunter. Hilarity and violence ensues.
It's been over 10 years since we've seen a new issue of the Scud comic by Rob Schrab. Rob's been very busy in those 10 years. Scud became a Sega Saturn videogame. Rob got a taste of Hollywood when he was asked by Ben Stiller to write a live-action pilot t.v. episode for the then "unknown" Jack Black and Owen Wilson. The results? "Heat Vision and Jack". The pilot episode was never shown on TV, but it's cult following became huge via bootleg videotapes and the internet (YOU CAN SEE IT HERE). He then went on to co-write the animated feature film "Monster House" and finally ended up as a writer/director on Comedy Central's "The Sarah Silverman Program".
Quite a resume, eh?
Now he's back doing the comic that started it all... and it's everything you'd expect. If you're a fan of Scud, or just love comics with humor and great ideas, I highly recommend you pick it up (starting with #21).
